Mission & Purpose

The vision of Cornerstone Christian Church is based on Acts 1:8 of the Bible.  Jesus tells his disciples that they will be witnesses in Jerusalem, Judea and Samaria, and the ends of the earth.  As we implement that direction in our own locality, the geogrphic references from Bible times are being applied to our society today:

Jerusalem & Judea

This was the local area where the disciples were, their hometown.  Within our local area, there are many organizations already meeting physical needs of many people.  We're joining with some of these organizations to meet these physical needs and provide an avenue to also meet their spiritual needs.  Some of these organizations include:

Beacon of Belleville: One of the ministries of Beacon is to offer furniture to people in need. Beacon has a warehouse of furniture that has been donated.  Six times a year on Saturday morning, Cornerstone provides the trucks and physical strength needed to pickup and deliver furniture to local residents.

Samaria

These areas were places where local people wouldn't normally have felt comfortable.  Areas of poverty, minorities, crime, and family crises, just to name a few difficulties.  Today the Cornerstone building is located just 10-15 minutes from all these situations.  East St. Louis  and inner city St. Louis have great physical needs which need to be met before we can share the love and salvation of Jesus Christ. Some of Cornerstone plans in this area are to partner with Christian church bodies in East St. Louis to provide the teaching resources, financial assistance, and volunteer support to help them prosper.

Restore St. Louis: This existing St. Louis based organization provides help for homes that need upkeep.  It may be raking leaves, painting, making minor structural repairs, but the homeowners don't have the resources to make the necessary improvements.  Once a month, Cornerstone members meet early on Saturday and spend the day assisting Restore St. Louis.

Helping Hands: This group of Cornerstone members provides sack lunches to homeless people around the inner city of St. Louis.  They meet at the Cornerstone building once a month on Saturday.

Christian Activity Center, Inc.: Located at 540 North 6th Street in East St. Louis, the Christian Activity Center helps children before and after school, along with helping adults throughout the day.  For more information on this organization and to volunteer, visit www.cacesl.org.

Ends of the Earth

American Christians today are blessed beyond belief.  We have Christian colleges, studies at local church buildings and in homes, easy access to Bibles, and people with phenomenal knowledge of scripture. This isn't the case in most other countries.  We are partnering with many global missions to help train Christian leaders.  Two of these organization are:

International Christian College of Manila:  www.iccmanila.com
Central India Christiam Mission (CICM):  www.indiamission.org

Faith Promise

Once a year Cornerstone provides a personal approach for people to support worldwide missions.  "Faith Promise" is a time when each person is asked to make a commitment to give a gift amount over and above their regular offering, giving on faith that God will provide.  "Faith Promise" donations currently support the following organizations:

African Christian  Mission International www.fixrfly.smugmug.com
